Togo Recent Form

Togo won their first match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, defeating Eswatini 2-0 at the Mbombela Stadium on June 18.

Before the quarter-hour mark, Kevin Denkey of Cercle Brugge opened the scoring. Euloge Fessou Placca, 28, then scored in the 92nd minute to seal the victory.

Prior to that, on June 14, when they defeated Lesotho 2-0, Duarte\’s team ended a four-match losing streak thanks to goals from Yawo Evra Agbagno and Denkey.

Despite their recent comeback, Togo\’s chances of qualifying for the 2023 AFCON had already been dashed as they currently lie third in Group B, five points down from Cape Verde in second place going into the last group match.

Togo will now play at home, where they have won three games and drawn five others since losing to Namibia 1-0. At home, they have gone unbeaten in each of their previous eight games overall.

Cape Verde Recent Form

Contrarily, Cape Verde\’s last time out secured their spot in Ivory Coast with a 3-1 victory over Burkina Faso at the Estadio Nacional de Cabo Verde.

News From the Teams

Denkey has been in excellent scoring form for Cercle Brugge, and he should continue to spearhead the attack for Togo. In his previous 14 appearances for club and country, he has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists.

His strike partner Placca, as well as Roger Aholou of Raja Club Athletic, may join him in the front two.

For the match on Sunday, Bubista has selected a 25-man roster, which includes Ryan Mendes of Fatih Karagumruk, who has earned 63 caps for his country.
