Volunteer Cook Job Opportunity at Maternity Africa

Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization that endeavours to provide fistula treatment and quality maternity care for all marginalized women throughout Tanzania. We do this through clinical excellence and in the example of displaying love, kindness and compassion regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.

Maternity Africa currently operates from its base at Kivulini Maternity Centre outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

About the Role

This is a Two week to a Month volunteering position with an allowance. It involves preparing local food including Ugali, Rice, Green Vegetables extra for up to 160 people being patients and staff. The person to work in this role should be willing to serve and work with our patients who are mostly pregnant mothers, women receiving fistula treatment and Maternity Africa employees. This role requires a cook who is willing and able to do more than cooking, but can also keep the kitchen environment, equipment and utensils clean and serve the meals prepared.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Cooking and preparing meals, ensuring they meet quality and portion control standards while adhering to strict hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Special Dietary Needs: Catering to patients with special dietary needs or restrictions due to medical conditions.
  • Inventory Management: Monitoring food supplies and ingredients, placing orders as necessary to maintain adequate stock levels while minimizing waste.
  • Kitchen Organization: Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area, including proper storage of food, utensils, and equipment.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborating with kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal preparation and service.
  • Adherence to Regulations: Following health and safety regulations, including sanitation standards and guidelines for food handling and storage.
  • Quality Control: Conducting regular quality checks on prepared meals to ensure they meet nutritional standards, taste expectations, and presentation guidelines.
