The primary goal of the Tazama Pipeline is to provide Zambia with a reliable and cost-effective source of crude oil. Zambia, which is landlocked, was previously dependent on importing refined petroleum products, which are costly and subject to fluctuating global oil prices.
The pipeline allows for the importation of crude oil to Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam port, after which it is refined and transported to Zambia for use in domestic industries, including manufacturing, transportation, and energy generation.
