Action Against Hunger’s water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives have greatly enhanced school hygiene for students in the Mpwapwa District. We build improved sanitation facilities and provide training for both pupils and teachers on how to make sanitary pads, a skill that is shared with other children. In the Singida and Dodoma regions, we conduct malnutrition screenings and offer nutrition and health education.
Through our therapeutic feeding units, we successfully treat hundreds of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Additionally, we train community health workers to deliver essential health and nutrition services within their communities. Action Against Hunger also runs the Gender Equitable Nutrition project, which aims to improve nutrition for the most vulnerable populations, with a focus on women, adolescent girls, and children.
Other key initiatives include promoting community-driven responses to food and nutrition needs and supporting efforts to address acute malnutrition in children on a national level. Despite significant economic growth in Tanzania, particularly in agriculture—which employs 70% of the population—undernutrition remains a significant and unequal challenge.
