We are looking for a motivated and highly experienced individual to fill the position of:
Position: Business Reporter – The Citizen (1 Post)
Purpose:
The Business Reporter ensures that the business news submitted is factual, of public interest, detailed, and well-researched, in conformity with journalistic ethics, editorial objectives, and house style.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop reports and write news and feature stories for the title assigned, ensuring no major rewrites or additional reports are needed.
- Attend assigned news functions, take notes, and carry out interviews, checking facts, and making audio/visual recordings as necessary.
- Write news or features at own initiative, choice, and judgment, or as directed by the Business Editor or Section Editor.
- Ensure that the material reflects a thorough understanding of MCL’s style of journalism as defined in the editorial policy guidelines, house style, and the journalistic code of ethical journalism.
- Research and provide background information to make the copy complete.
- Brief the News Editor on gathered stories and write selected ones within set deadlines.
- Follow up on news leads and maintain close contacts with news sources.
- Continually build a contact list and demonstrate its value with consistent exclusive reports or information.
- Respond promptly to news breaks.
- Ensure the correctness of facts, content, and style of news materials.
- Cooperate closely with photographers to order pictures for the issues covered.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience: 2-3 years of working experience.
Position: Digital Reporter (1 Post)
Purpose:
The Digital Reporter is responsible for creating, curating, and delivering high-quality, engaging, and timely news content across digital platforms.
Main Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Produce accurate, clear, and engaging news articles, videos, and multimedia content for The Citizen’s digital platforms, including the website and social media.
- Breaking News Coverage: Monitor and report on breaking news events, ensuring timely updates and comprehensive coverage.
- Digital Publishing: Manage and update content on the website and social media platforms using content management systems and scheduling tools.
- Research & Reporting: Conduct thorough research, interviews, and fact-checking to ensure the credibility and accuracy of all content.
- Audience Engagement: Interact with readers and followers on social media, fostering community engagement and increasing audience reach.
- Collaboration: Work closely with editors, photographers, videographers, and designers to produce cohesive stories.
- Analytics and Performance Tracking: Analyze web traffic and engagement metrics using tools like Google Analytics or similar platforms.
- Use data insights to refine content strategy and improve reach and impact.
- Coordinate with social media and marketing teams to amplify content reach.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience: 2-3 years of working experience in digital content creation and reporting.
