Established in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM (CUAMM Tanzania) was the first healthcare-focused non-governmental organization to be officially recognized by the Italian government. Today, it stands as the leading organization in Italy dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the health and wellbeing of vulnerable populations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The NGO runs long-term programs and responds to emergencies to ensure healthcare services are accessible to everyone. Currently, Doctors with Africa CUAMM operates in nine Sub-Saharan African nations (Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda) with over 3,500 staff members, including 230 Italians.
The organization supports 21 hospitals, 124 districts, and provides services in areas like public health, maternal and child care, AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and training programs. It also manages four nursing and midwifery schools in South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia, as well as a university in Mozambique.
