Tanzania Portland Cement Public Limited Company (TPC PLC), also known as Twiga Cement Limited, is the largest cement producer in Tanzania and a subsidiary of the Heidelberg Cement Group. Founded in 1966, the company initially focused on manufacturing and selling cement, with its first cement bag produced at Wazo Hill in mid-1966.
TPC PLC was nationalized in 1978 and privatized in 1998. Heidelberg Cement now holds 69.25% of the shares through Scancem International DA, while the remaining 30.75% is owned by the public of the United Republic of Tanzania. The company’s shares are actively traded on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).
Since its establishment, TPC PLC has been producing high-quality cement that meets the standards set by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS). The company manufactures five main cement brands: Twiga Ordinary (42.5N), Twiga Plus (42.5N), Twiga Extra (32.5R), Twiga Super (32.5N), and Twiga Jenga (MC 22.5X).
