Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, delivers medical aid to individuals affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or those excluded from healthcare services. Our teams consist of tens of thousands of health professionals, as well as logistical and administrative personnel, all united by our mission. Our work is driven by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence, and neutrality.
We are a non-profit, self-managed, member-based organization, founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors. Today, we are a global movement with over 69,000 members. In Tanzania, there are approximately 246,000 refugees and asylum seekers, mostly from neighboring Burundi. MSF’s efforts have focused on providing specialized and secondary healthcare to improve the quality of care for both refugees and local Tanzanian communities.
We have also responded to several emergencies in the country, including floods. In August 2022, we began a project in Liwale district aimed at offering quality primary and secondary healthcare in seven government-run health facilities, with a focus on children under five and pregnant women.
