Ecobank is a subsidiary of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), a multinational bank operating in 34 African countries. The bank began its operations in Tanzania on January 19, 2010, offering full commercial banking services to the public. Currently, Ecobank has five branches in Tanzania, including three in Dar es Salaam (Acacia, Mwenge, and PSPF) and two in upcountry locations (Arusha and Mwanza).
These branches are strategically positioned to provide financial services closer to Tanzanians and facilitate cross-border trade, benefiting from the bank’s extensive network. Ecobank Tanzania also operates seven ATMs that accept VISA, MasterCard, China UnionPay, and PAN African Cards (PAC).
In 2012, the bank made significant strides in improving its financial performance, with revenues growing by 125% to reach Tsh 8.6 billion. Total loans and advances surged by 112%, reaching Tsh 77.4 billion, while total deposits rose by 49%, totaling Tsh 72.6 billion, driven by increased mobilization from cash-in-transit collections.
