The Aqua-Farms Organization (AFO), established in 2016 and officially registered in July 2017 under the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002 in the United Republic of Tanzania, was founded by 13 members committed to promoting development and food security through environmentally sustainable aquaculture and the restoration of fisheries. AFO is dedicated to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Climate Action, and Life Below Water.
The organization aims to be a leading force in replenishing aquatic resources through community-based conservation and sustainable aquaculture practices. AFO fosters food access and income generation within communities through research, training, workshops, and collaboration in the fields of aquaculture and fisheries. As an open-source NGO, AFO operates transparently, sharing its values, mission, and both successes and lessons learned from challenges.
The organization prides itself on fostering diverse, inclusive teams where every member’s voice is heard and valued, and it maintains high standards for accurate information and approaches, remaining open to self-criticism and external feedback. If something doesn’t work, AFO is committed to adjusting its methods until the right course is found.
