Taifa Gas Limited was originally founded as Mihan Gas Company Limited (MIHAN GAS) in 2005, under certificate of incorporation number 52508, as a limited company in the United Republic of Tanzania, following the Companies Ordinance (Cap 212). After investing two years in the startup phase of its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) business, the company began operations in 2008.
In 2017, new shareholders took over the company, and in 2019, it was renamed from Mihan Gas Company Limited to The Gas Company Limited to better align with its revised vision and mission. The company operates under both The Gas and Mihan Gas brands, seen on its LPG cylinders and related equipment.
It has 20 depots across various locations, including Mwanza, Mbeya, Moshi, Dodoma, Singida, Morogoro, Iringa, Kahama, Kigoma, Songea, Njombe, Manyara, Bukoba, Geita, Tabora, Musoma, Arusha, Sumbawanga, Tanga, and Shinyanga, with two more depots in Mwanga and Lindi currently nearing completion.
