Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University (Sumait University Vacancies) was established based on the former University College of Education Zanzibar (UCEZ), which was founded in 1998 by the Kuwait-based charity organization, the Africa Muslims Agency (AMA/Direct Aid), created in 1981. The university is owned by AMA/Direct Aid and is named after its founder, Dr. Abdulrahman Hamoud Al-Sumait (1947-2013), a renowned physician, philanthropist, educator, researcher, author, and pioneer, who was also a founding member of AMA.
The university is situated in Chukwani on the Zanzibar Islands in the United Republic of Tanzania, approximately 5.5 kilometers from the Zanzibar Old Stone Town seaport, 2.5 kilometers from Abeid Karume International Airport, and just 150 meters from the Indian Ocean’s West Coast. It spans 120,000 square meters, a space granted by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, surrounded by lush greenery and blooming flowers.
Sumait University is recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), which officially accredited it as a private university on May 14, 2014, following its 63rd meeting on March 27, 2014.
