Position: Senior Transport Manager
Job Summary:
The role involves performing SAP-related activities for the Transport Department (trained for TMS & MM) as a core user.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the transportation department, managing assets and employees.
- Manage operational aspects of ongoing projects and act as a liaison between project management, the project team, and line management.
- Ensure the smooth movement of customer goods from production through the supply chain to the end user.
- Establish and maintain quality transportation services.
- Develop partnerships with self-collection customers.
- Plan and implement departmental budgets.
- Supervise and schedule truck movements.
- Conduct regular safety audits on transportation equipment.
- Organize training sessions for employees on the proper use of machines and the handling of hazardous materials.
- Maintain organized records of vehicles, schedules, and completed orders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant shipping regulations.
- Stay up-to-date with safety regulations.
- Maintain electronic databases for fleet management, including sales, registrations, inspections, and maintenance.
- Ensure fleet availability by scheduling, forecasting, and analyzing current user trends.
- Arrange fleets and operational staff for special event planning and support.
- Ensure fleet operations comply with local and state regulations.
- Implement corrective actions and capacity-building strategies to meet company objectives.
- Ensure accurate vehicle and driver logbook maintenance for proper documentation.
- Oversee activities related to vehicle licensing, renewals, and statutory registrations.
- Review and authorize periodic vehicle fueling requests in line with approved provisions.
- Coordinate routine servicing and repairs of vehicles, ensuring relevant documentation is maintained.
- Perform periodic vehicle inspections, report incidents, and provide recommendations to the Head of Department.
- Liaise with approved mechanic workshops for the prompt and complete servicing of Dangote Cement trucks.
- Prepare and submit monthly fleet status reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Transport and Logistics.
- Master’s degree with specialization in Transport and Logistics.
- At least 20 years of related experience, with a minimum of 10 years specifically in transport.
- Professional qualification in procurement and logistics.
- Basic computer application knowledge.
- Ability to apply scheduling techniques effectively.
- Basic knowledge of record management systems (manual and automated).
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Good communication skills.
