Heifer International has collaborated with farmers and partners in Tanzania for over 50 years. Our work is shaped by current development priorities and focuses on building partnerships with the government, as well as public and private sectors, to strengthen specific value chains that benefit smallholder farmers. We emphasize the inclusion of women and youth, expanding access to technology, innovation, and financial resources, and offering technical and business support to help farmers and farmer producer organizations (FPOs) grow their enterprises.
We also work to connect farmers to markets, laying the groundwork for long-term agricultural development. Our main goal is to help families earn a sustainable living income—enough to afford basic needs such as nutritious food, secure housing, clothing, education, and healthcare—while also enhancing their economic and climate resilience.
Heifer Tanzania’s strategy centers on forming strong partnerships to drive agricultural transformation through a focused Signature Program. This approach targets selected value chains and applies Market Systems Development to close the living income gap, with a strong emphasis on empowering smallholder farmers, women, and youth, and improving access to innovation, finance, and business development services.
