In Tanzania, police training programs are structured across various institutions, each offering specialized courses aimed at enhancing the skills and professionalism of law enforcement officers. The Tanzania Police School – Moshi (TPS-Moshi), established in 1921 and relocated to Moshi in 1954, provides a range of academic and proficiency programs. These include the Basic Technician Certificate in Police Science and Police Communication, as well as promotional and security training courses.
TPS-Moshi emphasizes core values such as professionalism, patriotism, integrity, accountability, commitment, and transparency in its training approach. Another prominent institution is the Dar es Salaam Police Academy, founded in 1961. This academy offers both academic and proficiency programs, including the Ordinary Diploma in Police Science (NTA Level 6) and various short courses tailored to the needs of the police force and other security agencies.
Additionally, the Zanzibar Police College, established in 1956, provides training in criminal investigation, fraud investigation, and promotional courses for police officers and auxiliary police. These institutions collectively contribute to the development of competent police officers capable of maintaining law and order in Tanzania
