Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) is a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam, situated in Iringa Municipality, approximately 3 kilometres from the town centre. Established on 1st September 2005, MUCE evolved from the former Mkwawa High School, which was founded in 1959 as St. Michael and St. George’s School. Over the years, it transformed into a high school in 1964, a teachers’ college in 1977, and then reverted to a high school in 1992 before being upgraded to a university college.

The institution is named after Chief Mkwavinyika Munyigumba Mwamuyinga (1855–1898), a prominent leader of the Hehe people, renowned for his resistance against German colonial forces . Today, MUCE offers a diverse range of academic programmes through its three faculties: the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science.

The college provides undergraduate degrees such as Bachelor of Education in Arts (B.Ed. Arts), Bachelor of Education in Science (B.Ed. Science), Bachelor of Arts with Education (B.A. Ed.), and Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc. Ed.). Additionally, postgraduate programmes include the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Master of Science with Education (M.Sc. Ed.) in Biology and Chemistry streams, and Master of Arts with Education (M.A. Ed.) in Geography stream .
