Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian non-governmental organization that has been active in Tanzania for more than 30 years, focusing on community development initiatives in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and water and sanitation access. Through the EU-funded project “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani,” LVIA seeks to enhance climate resilience, improve access to essential services, and create socio-economic opportunities, with a particular emphasis on supporting women and youth in underserved urban areas.

Position: Assistant to the Project Manager

Main Objective:

To support the Project Manager in the facilitation of partners dialogue, and the partner’s implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities, ensuring timely reporting, communication, and engagement with stakeholders.

Specific Objectives:

Facilitate coordination between project partners, project teams, local authorities.

  • Support, implementation tracking of the activities, and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing technical and financial reports.
  • Ensure timely and communication with target groups.
  • Strengthen field implementation through presence, adaptability, and initiative.
  1. Scope of Work

The Assistant will:

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, implementing, and monitoring project activities.
  • Follow up field activities, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Draft activity reports.
  • Proactively identify and address bottlenecks in project implementation.
  1. Required Profile and Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate must:

  • Hold a university degree in social sciences, international development, project management, or related fields.
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in development cooperation or community-based programmes.
  • Demonstrate strong personality, emotional intelligence, and the capacity to challenge traditional cultural norms where necessary to promote women and youth inclusion.
  • Be fluent in English and Swahili; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
  • Have excellent interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Be proactive, flexible, and committed to LVIA’s values and the goals of Kijani Pemba.
  1. Duration and Timeline
  • Deadline for application: 15 days from the date of publication.
  • Assignment duration: Contract of one year with a probation period of 3 months, renewable based on performance and funding availability.
  • Duty station: Chake Chake, Pemba Island and frequent missions in Dar Es Salam and Unguja Island.
