Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) was established in 2005 by upgrading the former Dar es Salaam Teachers College, in response to the increasing need for graduate teachers following national education expansion programs. Located in Chang’ombe, Temeke District—about 5 km from the city center and adjacent to the National Stadium—the institution occupies nearly 53 acres and serves as a vital constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam. DUCE’s mandate includes delivering high-quality teacher education, conducting educational research, and providing consultancy and community services.
Today, DUCE offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its three faculties—Education; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science—including Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Arts, and various Master’s programmes (including unique offerings like Master of Science with Education and Master in Educational Leadership and Policy).
The college prides itself on modern facilities such as well-equipped libraries, ICT labs, and a Special Education Unit, promoting inclusive education and supporting students with disabilities. With international partnerships spanning over 14 universities, DUCE emphasizes global collaboration, innovation, and community engagement to foster transformative education and prepare graduates to address societal challenges.
