Taifa Gas Limited was originally established as Mihan Gas Company Limited (MIHAN GAS). It was incorporated in the United Republic of Tanzania in 2005 with certificate number 52508, as a limited company under the Companies Ordinance (Cap 212). After two years of initial investment in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector, the company began its operations in 2008.
In 2017, new shareholders took over the company, and in 2019, its name was changed from Mihan Gas Company Limited to The Gas Company Limited to align with its updated vision and mission. The company operates under both The Gas and Mihan Gas brands, which are evident in its LPG cylinders and other related equipment.
The Gas Company has 20 active depots located in Mwanza, Mbeya, Moshi, Dodoma, Singida, Morogoro, Iringa, Kahama, Kigoma, Songea, Njombe, Manyara, Bukoba, Geita, Tabora, Musoma, Arusha, Sumbawanga, Tanga, and Shinyanga, with two more depots in Mwanga and Lindi nearing completion.
