The African Social Security Association (ASSA), previously known as the East and Central Africa Social Security Association (ECASSA), is a regional, membership-based organization established in March 2007 in Kigali, Rwanda. Its primary goal is to foster collaboration and advance the development of social security in East and Central Africa. The association was officially registered under the Registrar of Societies in accordance with Section 10 of the Societies Act of 1968 by the Government of Kenya on September 18, 2007.

In 2016, its headquarters were moved to Arusha, Tanzania, which serves as the seat of the East African Community (EAC). ASSA was officially registered in Tanzania on July 18, 2023, under Registration Number 23656, replacing ECASSA with a broader mandate aimed at implementing its vision and mission across the entire African continent.

The decision to rename and transform the association into ASSA was unanimously approved during the 27th ECASSA Governing Council meeting in Livingstone, Zambia, on April 26, 2023. The organization is committed to equal opportunity employment, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.
