Azam Media Limited (AML) is a prominent Tanzanian media company headquartered in Dar es Salaam. Established in December 2013, AML is a subsidiary of the Bakhresa Group of Companies, a leading industrial conglomerate in East Africa. Position: Broadcast Engineer
Location: Nairobi
Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and manage outdoor broadcast (OB) transmission systems.
- Recommend and implement technical requirements for transmitting all large production, live, or mobile multi-camera broadcasts for sports and programming, especially for football production.
- Possess strong technical knowledge of VSAT, encoders, modulators, amplifiers, and their maintenance.
- Implement and manage video routing systems to ensure efficient signal routing and control.
- Ensure full compliance with industry broadcast standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and timely upgrades of OB van equipment.
- Provide technical support and on-the-job training to the production team when necessary.
- Collaborate with broadcast engineers and technical staff to optimize workflows and improve efficiency.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation and accurate records of equipment usage and servicing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in electronics/telecommunication engineering or a related field from a recognized technical university.
- Professional certifications in broadcasting technologies are an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with OB vans, preferably with setups involving 10 or more cameras.
- Hands-on experience with routing systems—video routers, audio mixers, and replay machines.
- Proven expertise in broadcasting live sports, especially football and other major events.
- Strong knowledge of broadcast technology, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in live broadcasting environments.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
