Occupational Health Nurse at Shanta Mining Company
The Occupational Health Nurse delivers high-quality clinical nursing care, supports occupational health surveillance, and assists with employee health programs at New Luika Gold Mine. Reporting directly to the Mine Medical Doctor, this role ensures the health, safety, and operational well-being of all employees and contractors in a remote mining environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical & Emergency Nursing Care:
- Deliver primary clinical nursing care, including patient triage, health assessments, medication administration, and vital condition monitoring.
- Provide immediate first-aid treatment for workplace injuries and assist with Workers Compensation Fund (WCF) statutory documentation and claims.
- Lead initial emergency response, CPR resuscitation, and medical evacuation procedures while maintaining BLS/ACLS standards.
- Occupational Health Surveillance & Compliance:
- Assist in conducting pre-employment, periodic, return-to-work, and exit occupational health examinations.
- Administer diagnostic tests including electrocardiograms (ECG), spirometry, audiometry, rapid diagnostic tests, and clinical sample collection.
- Maintain statutory occupational health registers and assist in preparing compliance reports for OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
- Clinic Operations & Health Promotion:
- Maintain a hygienic, safe, and fully stocked clinical environment, managing inventory levels of medical consumables.
- Participate in workplace health risk assessments, disease prevention campaigns, vaccination drives, and health education.
- Support community health initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned by the Mine Medical Doctor or Head of Department.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Registration:
- Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (or equivalent).
- Full registration and a valid practicing license from the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration clinical nursing experience.
- At least 1 year of practical experience in an industrial, mining, or occupational health setting.
- Sound knowledge of Tanzanian Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical assessment skills, with the physical adaptability to work on a 6×3 rotational shift in a remote mining site.
