The E-Government Agency (EGA) is a public institution under the Government of Tanzania, established to coordinate, oversee, and promote the implementation of e-Government initiatives in the country. Its primary goal is to enhance public service delivery through the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). EGA develops and maintains shared digital platforms, guidelines, and standards to ensure government institutions operate in a secure, interoperable, and efficient digital environment.
This includes systems such as the Government Mailing System (GMS), Government e-Office, and various online service portals that improve transparency and access to services for citizens and businesses alike. In addition to system development, EGA plays a critical role in capacity building by offering training, consultancy, and technical support to public institutions in areas like cybersecurity, ICT project management, and systems integration.
The agency is also responsible for setting and monitoring compliance with national e-Government frameworks to ensure digital transformation efforts are aligned with Tanzania’s development goals. Through these initiatives, EGA continues to foster a modern, digitally empowered government that is responsive, accountable, and citizen-centered.
