The National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT) is a constitutional body responsible for auditing the collection and expenditure of public funds in the country.
Its main goal is to ensure that the use of government and public institution funds complies with established laws, regulations, and procedures, and that public resources are utilized efficiently, with integrity, and for the benefit of citizens.
NAOT operates independently to provide accurate and unbiased reports to Parliament, the government, and the public on the state of national financial management.
In addition, NAOT plays a key role in promoting financial transparency and accountability by producing annual audit reports that are submitted to Parliament. These reports help identify challenges, weaknesses, and loopholes that may lead to the misuse of funds, while also offering recommendations for improving public resource management.
Through this role, NAOT strengthens good governance, reduces opportunities for corruption, and ensures that taxpayers’ money is used for the sustainable development of the nation.
