Precision Air Services PLC, commonly known as Precision Air, is a Tanzanian airline headquartered at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. Founded in 1993, the airline initially operated as a private charter service before expanding into scheduled regional flights. It has since grown into the largest domestic carrier in Tanzania, serving key cities like Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, and Zanzibar, as well as international destinations such as Nairobi and Moroni. The airline operates a fleet primarily composed of ATR turboprop aircraft, which are well-suited for short-haul and regional routes.

Over the years, Precision Air has built a reputation for affordability, safety, and customer service. It was the first Tanzanian airline to pass the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Operational Safety Audit, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to global aviation standards. Under the leadership of CEO Patrick Mwanri, the company has implemented cost-cutting and efficiency-driven strategies, including fleet optimization and route expansion to underserved areas. These initiatives are part of a broader recovery plan aimed at stabilizing operations and reaching financial sustainability.

Despite its efforts, Precision Air has faced major setbacks, including a tragic accident in November 2022 when one of its aircraft crashed into Lake Victoria, resulting in the loss of 19 lives. Financial difficulties have also weighed heavily on the airline, with large debts and legal issues affecting its operations. Its major shareholder, Kenya Airways, has reportedly been reconsidering its investment due to ongoing losses. Nonetheless, the airline’s leadership remains committed to restructuring and recovery, with hopes of returning to profitability and strengthening its presence in the East African aviation market.
