Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) is a state-owned development finance institution established in September 2012 under the Companies Act of 2002 and licensed within the country’s banking regulatory framework. Its primary mandate is to be the lead financial institution for agricultural development in Tanzania, offering short-, medium-, and long-term financing solutions.
TADB aims to transform the agricultural sector from traditional subsistence farming into a modern, commercial, and competitive industry that supports national goals such as food security, economic growth, and poverty reduction.
The bank uses a value chain financing model that covers all phases of agricultural activity—ranging from input supply and production to processing, storage, and marketing. Its services include asset financing, term loans, commodity and trade finance, and guarantee schemes like the Smallholder Farmers Credit Guarantee Scheme (SCGS), which helps small-scale farmers access credit by securing part of their loans. By supporting inclusive, climate-resilient, and commercially viable agricultural enterprises, TADB plays a vital role in enhancing rural livelihoods and fostering sustainable development across Tanzania.
