Twiga Cement, officially known as Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited (TPC PLC), is Tanzania’s largest cement producer, a subsidiary of the Heidelberg Materials Group. Founded in 1959 and beginning production in mid‑1966 at its Wazo Hill plant near Dar es Salaam, the company remains a cornerstone of Tanzania’s construction industry. Twiga manufactures multiple cement brands—including Twiga Ordinary (42.5N), Twiga Plus, Twiga Extra (32.5R), Twiga Super (32.5N), and Twiga Jenga (MC 22.5X)—all conforming to Tanzania Bureau of Standards requirements.
In June 2025, Twiga Cement acquired a 95% stake in Mamba Cement Company, securing access to limestone reserves roughly 125 km from its Dar es Salaam factory. This move aims to vertically integrate raw material sourcing and mitigate limitations at its existing Tegeta–Wazo Hill quarry. Despite a drop in net profit in 2024—from approximately TZS 99 billion to around TZS 56–57 billion—the company increased its dividend payout to shareholders by over 50%, reflecting an emphasis on cash returns and operational resilience.
Twiga Cement plays a crucial role in supporting Tanzania’s growing infrastructure and real estate sectors. As the country continues to develop roads, bridges, housing projects, and industrial zones, the demand for high-quality cement remains strong. Twiga Cement has responded to this need by continuously investing in modernizing its production facilities and expanding capacity. Its strategic location near Dar es Salaam, one of Tanzania’s largest cities and a key port, gives the company a logistical advantage in distributing its products both locally and to neighboring countries.
In addition to its industrial contributions, Twiga Cement is recognized for its commitment to corporate social responsibility. The company has supported various community development projects, including education, healthcare, and environmental conservation initiatives. It maintains a focus on sustainability by implementing environmentally friendly practices in its manufacturing processes and reducing carbon emissions where possible. Through these efforts, Twiga Cement not only strengthens its market position but also builds lasting relationships with the communities it serves.
