The Water Institute (WI) is a government-owned technical training institution under the Ministry of Water, located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Originally established in 1974 as the Water Resources Institute, it was later restructured and became an executive agency in 2008, officially adopting the name Water Institute in 2016.
The institute is tasked with training professionals for the water sector through diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs in fields such as water supply, sanitation engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, and irrigation.
The institute’s vision is to become a center of excellence in water and sanitation training, research, and consultancy in Tanzania and across the region. Its mission focuses on providing high-quality education, conducting applied research, and offering professional advisory services that support sustainable water resource management.
WI also collaborates with national and international stakeholders and regularly hosts conferences and forums that promote innovation and knowledge exchange within the water sector.
