NMB Plc is one of Tanzania’s largest commercial banks, offering a wide range of banking services to individuals, small to medium-sized businesses, government institutions, large enterprises, and agricultural sectors. Established under the National Microfinance Bank Limited Incorporation Act of 1997, following the division of the former National Bank of Commerce, three entities were formed: (a) NBC Holdings Limited, (b) National Bank of Commerce (1997) Limited, and (c) National Microfinance Bank Limited.
The bank operates 226 branches, over 9,000 agents (Wakala), and more than 700 ATMs throughout Tanzania, covering all districts. NMB serves over 4 million customers and employs over 3,400 staff.
Listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, its main shareholders are Arise B.V. with 34.9% and the Government of Tanzania with 31.8%. NMB has been recognized as the “Best Bank in Tanzania” for eight consecutive years (2013-2020) by Euromoney awards for excellence and was named the Safest Bank in Tanzania for 2020 by Global Finance Magazine.
