TRA SACCOS LTD was established in 2006 by employees of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), who are stationed across all TRA offices in the country, including Zanzibar and Pemba. Membership is open to all TRA employees, making the organization a staff-based financial cooperative. The main objective of TRA SACCOS is to mobilize savings from its members and offer loans that contribute to their social and economic development. As of now, the SACCOS has a membership base of 6,000 individuals.
To ensure proper financial management and security of members’ funds, TRA SACCOS is governed by a Management Board that has put in place structured policies and procedures. These tools are designed to promote the efficient allocation of loans and ensure that repayments are deducted directly from members’ salaries through the employer’s payroll system. This method has helped the organization maintain a loan delinquency rate of less than 1%, reflecting high operational efficiency and financial discipline.
The overarching mission of TRA SACCOS is to elevate members’ quality of life by offering high-quality microfinance products supported by modern technology. The organization also encourages a culture of saving by providing members with opportunities to grow their savings and deposits. These accumulated funds are then used to offer loans at reasonable interest rates, supporting members in both personal and income-generating activities. Through this system, TRA SACCOS fosters financial independence and long-term security among its members.
