Founded in 2004, the Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) is a donor-supported organization that works to enhance the financial sector in Tanzania with the goal of reducing poverty. FSDT seeks to create a transformative financial system that provides inclusive and sustainable financial solutions to improve the livelihoods, well-being, and empowerment of underserved communities.
FSDT follows the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach, which focuses on developing market systems that benefit the poor by providing them with the tools and opportunities to improve their lives. The organization primarily targets women and youth, who are the most financially excluded groups in the country. FSDT is committed to assisting the financial sector in offering inclusive, high-quality financial solutions that address the specific needs of women and youth.
Through its facilitation, FSDT aims to bring about positive changes in the market. Over the past decade, FSDT has played a pivotal role in advancing financial inclusion, and its focus has now shifted from improving access to encouraging greater usage, while strengthening the foundation built from previous achievements.
