Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) offers a range of internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students seeking practical experience in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields. These internships provide students with hands-on exposure to research, extension services, and industry practices, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world settings.
SUA collaborates with local and international organizations, government agencies, and private sector partners to ensure interns gain valuable skills in areas such as crop and livestock production, environmental management, agricultural economics, and food technology. 1. Agricultural Extension Officers (10 Positions)
Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree Holders
Key Responsibilities:

- Provide expert agricultural advice to farmers in the cashew value chain.
- Train farmers in best practices—from land preparation to harvesting, value addition, and market access.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
- Prepare and submit weekly progress reports on cashew farming activities.
- Coordinate seedling and input distribution and track usage in local areas.
- Maintain and update digital farmer databases and input providers.
- Conduct quality checks at both farm and cooperative (AMCOS) levels.
- Set up model farms and demonstration plots.
- Forecast cashew production based on the number of productive trees.
- Gather data from small-scale processors and report to CBT.
- Identify and link farmers with agricultural service providers.
- Encourage farmer record-keeping and help villages select lead farmers.
- Advise on other crops grown in the area.
- Supervise Assistant Extension Officers.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Tanzanian citizen aged between 18–40.
- Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production from a recognized institution.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and independent working skills.
- Must not be employed or previously dismissed from the public sector.
- Clean criminal record.
- Willing to work in rural areas and sign a fixed-term contract.
- Monthly allowance provided as per contract.
- Experience in cashew production is an added advantage.
2. Assistant Agricultural Extension Officers (40 Positions)
Eligibility: Diploma Holders
Key Responsibilities:

- Deliver technical support to farmers on proper cashew farming practices.
- Educate and monitor quality standards from farms to warehouses.
- Ensure farmers follow approved farming practices and input usage.
- Prepare weekly field reports.
- Facilitate distribution and proper usage of farming inputs.
- Update digital farmer records and input provider databases.
- Train farmers on the safe and effective use of pesticides.
- Manage subsidized input distribution in local zones.
- Support in setting up model farms and farmer schools.
- Forecast cashew yields based on productive tree counts.
- Collect processing data from households and small processors.
- Foster connections between farmers and local agribusinesses.
- Promote proper documentation through farmer logbooks.
- Help village leaders select lead farmers.
- Offer advice on additional crops grown in the region.
- Support seasonal cashew harvest and processing evaluations.
- Perform other tasks as directed by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
- Tanzanian citizen aged between 18–35.
- Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production from a government-recognized institution.
- Honest, hardworking, and team-oriented.
- No prior government employment or criminal convictions.
- Ready to relocate to rural areas and work under minimal supervision.
- Willing to sign a performance-based contract.
- Cashew industry experience is an added benefit.
