Human Resource Officer
Aga Khan Health Services (AKHST)
Reporting To: Manager, Human Resources

Position Overview:
The Human Resource Officer plays a vital role in cultivating a positive workplace culture by promoting strong employer-employee relations and ensuring adherence to labor laws and AKHST’s internal policies. This position focuses on maintaining a fair and inclusive work environment, enhancing employee satisfaction, and supporting consistent and equitable HR practices across the organization. Additionally, the officer will provide support across various HR functions and contribute to the smooth running of daily HR operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for staff and management regarding employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances.
  • Offer expert advice on employee relations, labor legislation, and internal policies to both staff and leadership.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, misconduct, or complaints, and recommend appropriate measures in accordance with AKHST policies and employment laws.
  • Support employee engagement programs and initiatives that promote wellbeing and a positive work culture.
  • Track staff satisfaction, coordinate annual surveys, and assist in morale-boosting initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of employee relations cases and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure timely and organized filing of all HR documents in both physical and electronic formats.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze data to inform strategies for reducing staff turnover.
  • Assist in developing and updating HR policies and ensuring legal and organizational compliance.
  • Provide conflict mediation and support resolution between employees and supervisors.
  • Train line managers on proper handling of employee-related matters.
  • Secure and input employee data into the HRIS system accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor timely completion of performance evaluations, probation reviews, and PIPs.
  • Coordinate closely with the Admin, Finance, and IT teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Participate in recruitment activities for all categories of staff and manage employment contracts.
  • Oversee the preparation and dispatch of employment letters and related correspondence.
  • Play an active role in HR audits, including JCIA and SafeCare evaluations.
  • Submit timely HR reports for management decision-making.
  • Ensure all clinical staff are properly licensed and registered with regulatory bodies.
  • Organize quarterly CEO forums and other staff engagement activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or delegate.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant HR experience in a reputable institution.
  • Deep understanding of labor laws, HR best practices, and employment standards.
  • Strong integrity with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and a proactive mindset.
  • Ability to thrive both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
