ROLE PURPOSE:
The Supervisor – Exploration plays a key role in assisting geologists with the coordination and execution of drilling programs and other exploration activities. This includes overseeing the quality of work, ensuring safety and procedural compliance, and managing daily operations. The role involves supervising direct reports, planning daily tasks, and ensuring that all exploration work meets established standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Diploma in Mineral Exploration from a recognized institution
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in:
- Field mapping
- Diamond and Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling
- Core orientation and marking
- Core recovery reconciliation
- Sampling processes
ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to gather and interpret basic geological data from drill cores and surface rock outcrops
- Strong understanding of HSE policies and how to apply them in the field
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead daily toolbox meetings in accordance with company safety protocols
- Guide team members in identifying workplace hazards and implementing control measures
- Report new or potential hazards and escalate significant risks to supervisors
- Immediately report injuries, incidents, illnesses, or suspected unfit-for-work conditions
- Manage logistics for drilling operations, including coordination of crews, equipment, and supplies
- Accurately identify and mark drillhole positions using GPS
- Inspect and approve drill pads before drilling equipment is mobilized
- Work with the survey team to position pegs according to collar plans
- Align rigs and set inclination angles as per drilling plans
- Create shift rosters and manage team leave schedules
- Monitor sample quality, including core recovery and marking
- Document geological features and measurements from drill cores and outcrops
- Conduct geotechnical logging (Geotech A & B) if assigned to Core Yard work
- Exercise judgment in deciding when to stop or modify drilling operations
- Submit daily work reports at the end of each shift
- Ensure all collected samples are properly labeled and delivered to the Core Yard
