Role Purpose:
This role supports the Engineering team in achieving departmental goals safely and cost-effectively. The Technician is responsible for carrying out tyre maintenance tasks efficiently and in full compliance with GGML standards. The position plays a key role in improving tyre service delivery, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring optimal equipment availability.
Required Qualifications:
- Secondary School Certificate
- Level 3 and Level 4 Certification in OTR Tyre Management from an accredited institution
- Valid Tanzanian driver’s license
Experience Required:
- At least 3 years of experience in OTR tyre maintenance within the mining sector
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience using Total Tyre Control (TTC) software
- Proven ability to conduct and interpret TKPH studies for tyre application and selection
Other Key Competencies:
- Skilled in safe and effective OTR tyre fitting, repair, and re-grooving
- Strong understanding of tyre specifications, usage, and common failure reasons
- Ability to work with tyre manufacturers and clients
- Proficient in tyre data management and using TTC software
- Knowledgeable in workplace safety practices and hazard identification
- Analytical thinking and good judgment, with the ability to work independently under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills
- Competent in basic math and reading
- Honest, adaptable, and self-motivated
- Open to working extended hours or in remote areas
- Quick to learn new tools, systems, or procedures
Main Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong safety culture in the tyre maintenance team
- Participate in regular safety meetings and follow up on any safety issues raised
- Always follow safe tyre maintenance procedures
- Assess work areas for safety before starting tyre tasks
- Respond quickly to field breakdowns and report feedback to the supervisor
- Perform tyre checks, equipment calibrations, and standard maintenance activities
- Fit and remove tyres across all vehicle types as per GGML protocols
- Complete tyre and rim assembly tasks safely and correctly
- Carry out tyre and tube repairs following company guidelines
- Operate forklifts and tyre-handling equipment safely
- Paint, clean, and test rim components for cracks
- Inspect and determine the usability of wheels and rim components
- Maintain recommended tyre pressure levels
- Ensure the tyre bay is clean and well-organized
- Accurately record tyre information into GGML systems
- File documents correctly for audits
- Monitor and manage stock levels of tyres and related components
- Assist with additional duties or tasks as assigned
- Conduct daily severity assessments and TKPH evaluations
- Input and update tyre data in management software
- Analyze tyre damage and suggest appropriate repair solutions
