The Risk and Compliance Officer participates in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational and financial risks across all departments. This role supports internal control evaluations, conducts Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) monitoring reviews, ensures compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulatory standards, and fosters a strong risk-aware culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Identification & Assessment: Participate in departmental risk assessment discussions to evaluate Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), update business unit risk profiles, and recommend mitigating controls.
  • AML & KYC Compliance: Perform AML/KYC risk assessments, conduct monitoring reviews across high-risk channels (Account Opening, Agent Banking, Mobile Banking, Dormant Reactivations), and deliver regulatory compliance training to staff.
  • Operational Monitoring & Auditing: Implement the Risk and Compliance unit plan, evaluate internal control effectiveness, conduct counterparty risk assessments before onboarding, and perform independent compliance reviews.
  • Audit Issue Tracking: Follow up on the resolution and closure of audit findings and corrective actions raised in external, internal, and regulatory examination reports.
  • Reporting & Governance: Support Senior Officers in compiling data-driven risk reports and ensuring alignment with strategic Bank objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working in banking operations, specifically within Risk and Compliance, Internal Audit, or related departments.
  • Professional Certifications: Relevant certifications in Risk Management, Compliance, CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) are an added advantage.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Sound understanding of risk management methodologies, banking regulations, data security/privacy standards, and AML policies in Tanzania.
