Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, offers medical aid to those affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, or lack of access to healthcare. Our teams consist of thousands of healthcare professionals, logistical experts, and administrative personnel, all united by our mission. Our work is driven by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence, and neutrality.
We are a non-profit, self-managed organization with a membership structure. Founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors, MSF has grown into a global movement of over 69,000 people. Currently, Tanzania is home to around 246,000 refugees and asylum seekers, primarily from Burundi. MSF’s efforts have focused on enhancing specialized and secondary healthcare to improve services for both refugees and Tanzanian host communities.
Additionally, MSF has responded to several emergencies in Tanzania, including floods. In August 2022, we initiated a project in Liwale district aimed at providing quality primary and secondary healthcare in seven government-run health facilities, with a special focus on children under five and pregnant women.
