Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) is the national airline of Tanzania, proudly bearing the slogan “The Wings of Kilimanjaro.” Established in 1977 following the dissolution of East African Airways, ATCL is wholly owned by the Tanzanian government and operates from its hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. The airline is certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is a member of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA).
ATCL’s fleet comprises 16 modern aircraft, including Dash 8-Q300 and Q400 turboprops, Airbus A220-300s, Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, Boeing 737 Max 9s, and a Boeing 767-300 freighter, enabling it to serve over 120 weekly flights to more than 15 destinations across Africa and Asia . In recent years, ATCL has embarked on an ambitious expansion strategy to enhance connectivity and support regional integration. The airline has introduced direct flights to international destinations such as Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou, and Johannesburg, with plans to add routes to London, Lagos, Accra, Muscat, and Juba .
Domestically, ATCL operates flights to 14 cities, including Zanzibar, Arusha, and Mwanza. Beyond its commercial operations, ATCL is committed to corporate social responsibility, focusing on community development, education, and environmental sustainability. The airline’s efforts have been recognized with awards such as the 2023 Consumer Choice Awards for Most Preferred and Convenient Airline in Africa and Tanzania.
