Mobile Crane Operator at China Petroleum Pipeline (CPP)

Total Exploration and Development Uganda Limited (TEPU), CNOOC Uganda Limited (CUL), and the Government of Uganda have discovered crude oil in the Lake Albert region. To enable export to the international market, they plan to construct a pipeline connecting the Kingfisher area to Buliisa–Nwoya.

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) forms part of the Lake Albert Development Project. This 1,443-kilometer transnational pipeline will transport crude oil from Uganda to the Port of Tanga on Tanzania’s east coast. The system is composed of three main elements: above-ground installations (AGIs), the pipeline, and marine storage terminals (MSTs). The AGIs include six pumping stations (PS-1 to PS-6) and two pressure-reducing stations (PRS-1 and PRS-2). The pipeline is a 24-inch, continuously heated export line extending from the Kabaale hub pumping station (PS-1) in Uganda’s Hoima region to storage facilities in Tanga, Tanzania, and includes intermediate valve chambers, electric heat tracing (EHT) systems, high-voltage distribution (HV), fiber optic (FO) cables, and related equipment, as well as EHT substations.

Job Description:

The Mobile Crane Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a mobile crane to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment in construction and industrial environments. Duties include performing daily inspections to ensure the crane is in safe working condition, identifying mechanical issues or leaks, and arranging necessary repairs. Operators must ensure proper rigging and loading procedures, maintain load stability, and coordinate closely with riggers, ground crews, and supervisors for safe and precise operations.

Additional tasks include adhering strictly to safety regulations, reporting unsafe conditions, maintaining accurate records of operations, inspections, and maintenance, and reacting effectively to emergencies to safeguard personnel and equipment. The operator will also collaborate with construction teams to ensure lifting and rigging requirements are met efficiently and within project timelines.

Job Requirements:

• Good English communication skills

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mobile crane operations

• Valid mobile crane operator certificate

• Driving license class F and E

• Ability to adapt to the nature of project work

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or in a team

• Experience in petroleum pipeline or construction industries preferred

• Flexible and adaptable to work in different locations with diverse teams

• Physically fit and free from infectious or chronic illnesses
